Non-Violent Direct Action Legal Training by Ricardo Briones, J.D.

Sunday June 30, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This workshop will explain important legal considerations regarding non-violent direct action, so that participants can make informed decisions when considering support for non-violent direct action. Ricardo Briones is an esteemed trial attorney with experience in civil litigation, criminal law, and community work. His clients include activists from the DREAM ACT students, Unite HERE’s San Antonio civil disobedience in 2011, and the disruption at the PGA Valero Texas Open tournament earlier this year.

Este taller explicará consideraciones legales importantes en cuanto a las acciones directas no violentas para que los participantes puedan hacer decisiones informadas cuando consideren apoyar a estas. Ricardo Briones es un abogado estimado con experiencia en pleito civil, derecho penal, y trabajo de comunidad. Sus clientes han incluido a estudianes activistas del Dream Act, trabajadores y activistas de Unite Here en la desobediencia civil del 2011, y recientemente a quien causo la interrupción en el torneo abierto de Valero Texas.

    As a Person with Disabilities, I wondered if there was a possibility to have this livestreamed for those of us who want to participate in this wonderful opportunity but need a virtual reasonable accommodation in order to do so? ❤ Love, Respect & Solidarity ❤ MGR

      Thank you for the interest in the workshop. We would love to make the entire training camp as accessible as possible. We will do our best to make the presentations available online via livestream or video recording. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to make the conference more accessible to you.

San Antonio is hosting a non-violent direct action training camp in coordination with Fearless Summer. Workshops topics will include: history of non-violent direct action in SA, mapping issues in SA, legal and security culture issues in non-violent direct action, current indigenous resistance, innovative tactics used by Tar Sands Blockade (including advanced build), team building and safer spaces. The training camp is free and open to the public, but space is limited.Please RSVP by going to the Registration page.

San Antonio está organizando un campo de entrenamiento de acción directa no violenta en coordinación con Fearless Summer. Talleres incluirán los temas: la historia de la acción directa no violenta en SA, la cartografía de los problemas en SA, temas de la cultura legal y de seguridad en la acción directa no violenta, la resistencia indígena actual, tácticas innovadoras utilizadas por Tar Sands Blockade (incluyendo avanzados talleres para construir), formación de equipos y espacios más seguros.
